Following the passage of Illinois State Resolution (SR) 70 on May 31, His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos together with two members of the "Friends of the Ecumenical Patriarchate from Peoria Committee", and three other faithful from the Metropolis of Chicago, made a pilgrimage to Constantinople.

On May 30th, Archbishop Michael Jackels was installed as the 10th archbishop of the 175-year-old Catholic Archdiocese of Dubuque, IA. Fr. Dustin Lyon, priest of St. Elias the Prophet Church in Dubuque, had the honor of representing the Metropolis of Chicago and the Orthodox community at the installation ceremony and Mass.

It is with a heavy heart that we write to inform you of the tragic fire that has severely damaged our beloved Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago, Illinois. The parish of St. Basil has much work ahead of it, and it is incumbent on the whole of our Metropolis to support our sisters and brothers as they rebuild and restore their historic church.

Evan Bravos, an native son of the Metropolis of Chicago, has recently appeared to rave reviews in a new operatic production of the Grapes of Wrath. His Grace Bishop Demetrios had the distinct pleasure of seeing him on-stage in the Production of Grapes of Wrath confirming what the reviews have declared: Evan is a talent to watch.

At a news conference Sunday at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Oak Lawn, kicking off a statewide campaign, Bishop Demetrios, chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, called on the Illinois Legislature to adopt a resolution supporting religious freedom for his order.
