Beloved Faithful
Holy Metropolis of Chicago

Beloved Family in Christ,

With great joy and on behalf of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America and the Holy Eparchial Synod we are pleased to announce the election of the Very Reverend Archimandrite Nathanael Symeonides as Metropolitan of Chicago.

During my time as Locum Tenens I have been grateful for the solid foundations set by Metropolitan Iakovos of blessed memory and the dedicated service of our Chancellor, His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, as well as that of our clergy and laity. Now, with great excitement in the air, Metropolitan-Elect Nathanael is eager to come as your Arch-shepherd to work, pray, serve, lead and walk with you on our journey to the fullness of God’s Kingdom.

He will be ordained to the Holy Episcopacy on March 17 in New York, and enthroned as Metropolitan of Chicago at the Annunciation Cathedral here on March 24, an event that will be followed by a celebratory luncheon. I know he looks forward to greeting all the faithful at this rare and beautiful event: parishioners, clergy, Philoptochos members, Archons, council members and all who have made this Metropolis strong and who will meet this opportunity for renewal as a united family of faith.

To this end, the leaders of the Metropolis ministries and organizations will be working together with our Parish clergy to finalize plans for this event. I pray that all will come together to contribute in some manner to welcome properly the newly-enthroned Metropolitan and ArchPastor. Specific information as to these events and the needs of the Metropolis will be quickly forthcoming in the days ahead, and I ask for your prayers, your assistance, and your devotion to our Holy Church and Metropolis with thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord!

With Paternal Blessings,

Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit, Locum Tenens of Chicago
