Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elects Chancellor Timothy Bakakos as Auxiliary Bishop for the Metropolis of Chicago

LOMBARD, IL, October 6, 2020 – The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago announced today that the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate unanimously elected Fr. Timothy Bakakos, Chancellor of the Metropolis of Chicago, Bishop of Hexamilion.

 “I’m honored and humbled beyond words by the paternal love of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and for the trust of the members of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate,” said His Grace Bishop-elect Timothy. “In accepting this responsibility, I pledge to work harder and live the Gospel more authentically as I continue to serve Christ and His people.”

As an Auxiliary Bishop, His Grace will support and extend the hierarchical ministry of Metropolitan Nathanael across the six states of the Metropolis of Chicago. His Grace also will continue to serve as Chancellor of the Metropolis.

“From the beginning of my ministry as Metropolitan of Chicago, I recognized the character, devotion, and professionalism of His Grace Bishop-elect Timothy—essential qualities this Metropolis needs for continued change and growth,” said His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael. “For more than forty years, Bishop-elect Timothy has served our Metropolis as a good and faithful servant of the Lord, and I am thankful to God to have him working at my side as a Hierarch of the Church.”
