Father Chrysostom Panos to Step Down as Chancellor; Search for New Chancellor within the Metropolis to Begin

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL, May 30, 2019 – The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago today announced the launch of a search to select a new Chancellor from within the Metropolis. The announcement follows a request by Fr. Chrysostom Panos to step down as Chancellor effective June 1, 2019 and to seek assignment in the Direct Archdiocesan District in New York. Fr. Chrysostom has been on personal leave since March.

“Though his time with us has been brief, Fr. Chrysostom served the Metropolis dutifully and tirelessly. We are grateful for Fr. Chrysostom’s service, and we are pleased that he will continue to serve the Church in his new capacity,” said His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael.

His Eminence also expressed his desire to fill the role of Chancellor with the best candidate in an expeditious manner. Clergy from across the six states of the Metropolis of Chicago will be considered for the position.

The most senior priest within the Metropolis, the Chancellor is responsible for matters related to the clergy, including their spiritual and professional needs, continuing formation and development, employment and assignment, and is also responsible for overseeing the Metropolis registry and other ecclesiastical matters.
