Back to Servant Leadership Award Recipients

Assumption of Homer Glen is proud to name Andrew Dimitriou as its Servant Leadership Award recipient. Andy works tirelessly to improve the experience of those who visit the church, and often shows up well before Orthros and is the last to leave. In a typical week, Andy is greeter, janitor, porter, and, if needed, cook. He makes sure the lawn is cut in the summer and the paths are dry and salted in the winter. During the festival, he works 18-hour days, coordinating the kitchen/grills, pulling trash, greeting people, selling raffle tickets, cutting gyros, and cleaning tables. There aren’t many 80-year-olds as strong and as energetic as Andy. He is also a devoted grandfather, uncle, and father to his children and grandchildren. He served on the parish council for several years and contributed greatly to our church’s success. Andy leads through volunteerism and by example. He shows up early, does the work, and does not complain about it.
